The Dumpsterfire of 2020

Last November, I had the idea of creating an artist book that was a little different. I created a model of a dumpster and cast it in resin. After painting and weathering the ‘binding’ to look good and worn, I letterpress printed a bunch of garbage representing so much of the crap we had to put up with last year and an accompanying booklet. It was a good project and was received extremely well. The run was an edition of 22 with 14 supported on Kickstarter and the remainder going to special collections at Baylor University, Furman University, UC Davis, Shields Library, University of Bowling Green, Bainbridge Island Museum of Art, and Mills College.

I hope we learn from our mistakes. I hope we address the staggering wealthy inequality, the systemic racism, the plethora of guns and weekly mass shootings. This IS America and I’m not happy with it.

Like America, a little rusty and worse for wear.

Killers, liars, wildfires, climate catastrophes, etc. etc.

At the beginning of a pandemic, he says, ”I don’t take any responsibility at all.” Garbage, just garbage.
